Since moving here to Michigan some two years ago, I have found things both interesting and somewhat confusing with the private security and investigations industry here. The limited licensing and training requirements for those working in security and executive protection are hard to fathom. One can work as an EP without a security license as long as they protect the 'person' and not the 'person's property'. If we were to protect the clients 'property' we need to either work for a licensed security guard firm or be licensed ourselves. And there are no training standards or requirements for the position.
Does some one not see the error here. It seems to be the way with not only Executive Protection but security guards as well. Only training is site specific, and learn as you go. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? The jury still seems to be out on that.
Let me have your thoughts.
